leave it to Fate... sounds cliche but for myself, i'm getting more and more fatalistic. Dunno why. Mebbe it's all the experiences combined. But try to talk to each other often, u may be surprised to find the flame still burning inside both of you, even though you r apart.

Hey Yeelin! You still owe me the recipe for your stir-fried chicken macaroni!!!

Haha, but anyway here's a recipe for [Chicken Macaroni Salad]

I think I'll start building up a database of recipes right here! So I can make use of them next time when I go overseas. =)

Haha I think paul will be going to somewhere in queensland..not melbourne that side..

Just watched Little Who Wants to be a Millionaire...so cute!!! One small girl and one small boy, both 6 years old...heh heh reminds me of the wonder of youth and innocence; they hardly seemed nervous at all! Guess they still haven't reached the age of self consciousness yet...which is good. And the small boy had no idea about the concept of race at all; when asked how many main races there are in Singapore, he promptly replied 'One!' and refused further assistance. Haha...seriously that only proves that racism is not in-born, it's bred and inculcated via external influences. Or is it that National Education is taking its toll...? Nah, I think the former is more convincing. =)

alvin, don't you understand rapport when you see it? haha joking lar..

ehh paul...one whole month ah? hmmmm then must meet up for a drink soon...how about this sunday evening? who's free and who's not?

act cute man shengyong... "boo"...wat the f*

glad u all r enjoying the volunteer course.

logged by Alvin at 10:42:00 PM

Boo!

This is the latest invented greeting, tried and tested with much success on Ms. Tang Yeelin. This is how I am going to greet her when I see her next time. LOL!

Anyway, the NUH volunteer course was quite okay, it was very much what I expected, seemed a bit crappy, but ultimately puts across the message that it's no mean job to be a volunteer. I'm happier having met some new people! So thanks Yeelin!! I should thank you more than you thanked me. =) And regarding the call, it was the least I could have done, so yeah.

Glad the forbidden city was so good~! But then it's kinda steep for a one-off thingy...especially when I've already attended an SCO concert this month..shall save up for a real solid musical! Like the tim-sum dollies, animal farm..hai missed so many.

There's no better place to rant and pour out our grouses than here or the 79 blog.. go ahead la! Dun have to be shy or embarrassed or wad..

yupz.. things r starting to get stressful, esp when the term starts to go in full swing NOW! haiz sometimes when i'm juz feeling so ROTTEN - because of so many things - i juz have to push back all the unhappiness and continue studying. u can say dat i have to force myself to study for the tests when i'm absolutely not in the mood to do so. always tell myself, stop thinking about it, leave it til after the work, think about CA CA CA, but easier said than done...

And I'm not procrastinating... not becos i dun feel like doing my work... or dat i'm being lazy... rather becos i'm feeling so downtrodden and troubled, like i'm being weighed down by so many things at the same time, and when dat feeling of helplessness sets in, its hard to keep it away.

must be wondering wad nonsense i'm talking about.. haiz u won't understand one unless u r me. i'm gonna stray.. sorry:

NS has been especially difficult. when i found out dat i din get into medicine... i was quite depressed. from den on i would be worrying every day about my appeal, my future. everything became very sian. Still had to tolerate all the shit in camp. and worse when i found out i was posted to 1st guards... prestige and glory aside, the prospect of having to stay there for 2 fricking years was worse than before. if i knew i had got into medicine, den there was something to look forward to at the end of the 2 years, and knowing dat my plans for the future r in place, the way i want, i would have been willing to go thru all the shit in camp... face a bastard MO who doesn't respect medics, chiong swa, do tough PT...

BUt NOOOOO, i din get in. So there was no motivation at all. l felt so lost and helpless. my life suddenly had no direction... i juz wanted to serve out the fricking 2 years den f* off. when i was so sad in camp everyday, i still had to study for all the tests during medic course. this one is different.. if u dun study, u will get screwed by the sergeants when they test u. still had to endure all the bullying by our instructors. paul will know.. platoon 5 and 6 CSI and SI cannot make it one. platoon 5 SI will bully platoon 6 and platoon 6 SI will bully platoon 5. a lot of disgusting politics.

everynite i can't get to sleep. would juz stare into the ceiling, wondering why my fate was to be like dat. or talk with my bunk mates or other bunk mates til 12+ am. or go all the way down to level 2 (my bunk is on level 6) to find my fren (paul will know - simon). haiz... so i fully understand wad some of my frenz who din get their course, got into a siong unit, feel now.

it was the WORST period ever.

regarding u and zw.. i really know nothing about relationships.. can't give u useful advice. but his leaving s'pore must be a looming thing now for u... juz stay positive.. if u feel like juz having lunch, or going out, or juz bumming around can call us anytime

hey everyone~

i am kinda recovering from the flu...luckily I started my medication early so it hasn't had the chance to become full-blown yet.

hmmmm yeelin ah, are you alright? Well, I think since I am going for the NUH thingy tmr, maybe we'll meet for lunch and talk-talk first? I think a listening ear will do you good..=)

And there's a Garden exhibition at the Esplanade, perhaps we could go there for a walk after the thingy ends at 3pm yar? =)

Cool~ 3-4 wrong is still very A...so no worries lah! =)

Hmm, true lah the theory seems more of a waste of time than money, I'll explain why. If you're intending to take only practical lessons from the driving centre (as opposed to private), you have to pay an enrollment fee of about 150 bucks, which actually includes the payment for the theory lessons and materials already. Which means even if you intended to only take the practical lessons with the school, you lan lan have to attend the theory lessons (because they take attendance) or don't learn with the school at all (i.e. learn privately).

Both has its pros and cons, the private instructors are less structured in their teaching so they may leave out stuff by accident (like my senior who had 2 immediate failures in his first practical test because he didn't know how to do an emergency stop!). The school instructors are more professional and set quite high standards for its students so you can be more confident of passing the first time round (like Shunting managed) without wasting money and time.

For theory, they tend to give away the questions during the lessons, so if you study on your own you may encounter questions which you don't know how to answer 'cos it's not very specific in the book. But if you don't mind taking more than 1 time then it's ok lor...but very waste time leh..for you got 6 years lah so not so bad..=)

From www.cdc.com.sg:

Driving Classes Course Fee

(A) Practical and Theory Fees - $150.80 per learner driver

(B) Theory Fee - $109.20 per learner driver

(C) Practical Training Fee Only

Monday to Friday
8:30am to 6:05pm - $58.24 per 100 mins
6:50pm to 10:20pm - $66.56 per 100 mins

Saturday and Sunday
8:30am to 6:05pm - $66.56 per 100 mins

(D) Test Vehicle and "Warming-up" Fee - $133.12 per test
__________________________________________________

On average you take about 25 lessons. There're 3 modules, 6 + 10 + 5.

I'm learning at CDC 'cos it's near my camp and I can go for lessons just before booking in for duty (like today).

What's the point of getting a mouse without a ball? I think the purpose is largely cosmetic. I'd rather use the money to buy a PDA like Yeelin wanted. =)

logged by AidanWu at 6:28:00 PM

Yay i din do so badly after all. 3 or 4 wrong. but better not put this up on 79 blog in case shunting hounds me about it. Yupz~ I shall stop letting myself get flustered over tests anymore. Juz do my best.

Congrats yeelin! havent felt the feeling of winning for a long time liao rite? haha

shengyong, i'm thinking of learning driving too, but i think taking theory lessons r a waste of time.. and $$$. Why not study on my own and den take the TP test. say if u fail juz pay another $6 and retake, better den paying for the lessons. I think u can retake 6 or 7 times with the $$$ spent on the lessons, but won't really need to retake so many times rite?
where r u learning? BBDC? how many practical lessons before u take the practical test?

An optical mouse has no ball. wireless mouse has no wire.

Hahaha it's okay just bring the camera down this sat for MAF and it'll be solved~!

Congrats on winning the match! =) But I notice the guys always lose when the girls win. heh heh.

Talking about tests..here's a sample final year exam from Johns Hopkins that I took from one of their departmental webpages (the biomedical engineering department):
__________________________________________________________________________________

1. (2 pts) What is the width of an action potential produced by a neuron in the CNS:
A. 0.01 msec
B. 1 msec
C. 10 msec
D. 100 msec
E. 200 msec

2. (2 pts) When a limb muscle is stretched, which of the following events takes place:
A. Group Ia, primary spindle afferents of the stretched muscle, fire strongly and excite the alpha
motor neurons to the same muscle.
B. Group Ia, primary spindle afferents of the stretched muscle, fire strongly and excite the gamma
motor neurons to the same muscle.
C. Group Ib, golgi tendon organ afferents of the stretched muscle, responding to the increased
force in the muscle as it is being stretched, fire and excite the alpha motor neurons of the same
muscle.
D. A and C.
E. B and C.

3. (2 pts) Gamma motor neurons:
A. Innervate extra-fusal muscle fibers.
B. Innervate intra-fusal muscle fibers and have an important role in controlling muscle spindles.
C. Innervate the tendon region and control muscle force.
D. A and C.
E. B and C.

4. (2 pts) A slow type motor unit:
A. Has a small twitch tension.
B. Can sustain its tension and not fatigue even after repeated stimulation.
C. Is composed of a single motor neuron and a collection of muscle fibers.
D. A and B.
E. B and C.
F. A, B, and C.

5. (2 pts) Name the major descending tract that originates from the motor cortex and sends axons to
the spinal cord.

.
.
.

12. If you look at an oil painting from distance or closely at details, you generally get very different
impressions. Which of these experiences is more a reflection of “perception” as opposed to
“sensation”?

.
.
.

21. Patients whose arm is amputated because of an accident often report the feeling of a
“phantom limb” which, like a real limb, may feel itch or pain. In some patients, the
sensation aroused from the phantom limb can be remedied by touching the skin surfaces
around the face. Using the cortical map of skin surface discussed in the Wang lecture and
given below, explain this phenomenon. Name a neural mechanism underlying these
patients’ experience. [This question is cool!!]

End.

Btw, was reading ur 8Sep entry..what's an optical mouse? *suaku*

Anyway, i just arrived at camp from driving lessons..haha the instructor was damn xialan sometimes, but then I also can't say I drove that well lah...but who cares? I'm driving for the fun of it and that I am free nowadays anyway...so I just take all these in stride and enjoy the ride! (though I can't say the other road users are very thrilled when they see an L plate chugging down the lane, taking its own sweet time. :P) It's my 8th lessons tomorrow!

Ehh maybe can go for another food trip on saturday? Hahaha...*sees money flying away* no, I'm serious!

Anyway, regarding the cycling suggestion in the 79 blog, I'm serious about that too! though i don't think many of them would be very keen...that's why I am hinting here again! =)

logged by AidanWu at 8:53:00 AM

Yoyo..

haha funny to see you all getting all stressed up over CAs and tests all over again...hmmm but then just try your best and not worry too much about not doing as well you would expect yourself to have done because seriously how much do they affect your overall score? 10% or so only right? The main thing is to be consistent lah....the same old refrain....as long as you study reasonably throughout the year, there's nothing seriously big you will miss out in the end. =)

Alvin, I must say you have a good attitude (better than last time) towards studying now!! =) It's true that we always get uptight about block tests and class tests when it doesn't really matter much ('cos we know we will do badly esp. for bio. when we have tried out best) but then it's also because other people are so chao bia that we cannot help it too. As long as you try your best...no one can fault you (like you have done studying what is necessary but not worrying about the outcome; seriously there's no more time to worry!). But for the ambiguity of the questions you mentioned right, I think it's to do with going even more in-depth into them, there's always some obscure extra steps that the lectures will skip in order to make the content more palatable, i think. So you must have an overall perspective of what each step is for, and how important each step really is, before you make a reasonable judgement on which option is 'more correct'.

Yeelin!!!!! I just sent you an sms. All the best for today!~ Just remember how you led Hwachong Girls to thrash AC last year!!! This will merely be an extension of that achievement!

Btw I suddenly remembered I wanted to post photos on my blog, but I don't know how!!! Alvin I already developed the prom photos, will pass to you on Sat. Yeelin, when u develop the Chinatown photos can give me also? So I can upload on to the web =) Thanks.

Hmmm i dunno about matthew leh..ask zhewei maybe?

logged by AidanWu at 8:18:00 AM

Heya peeps

CA1 was ok la. the questions r quite tricky. i could answer those factual types, juz have to pay attention to details when i'm studying and shd be no prob. but there r also those questions which ask about mechanisms, den there r 2 or 3 out of the 5 options dat r very close. so have to pick the more correct one.. dun really noe wad 'more correct' really means.. correct means correct, wrong means wrong la wad the HECK!

Haiz... wadever la. It's over. somehow i'm not as concerned about whether i did badly or not for tests, etc as i was in JC. In JC i would get uptight over every single small test. dunno if it's a gd or bad thing. must be the army effect!

Good luck for ur IVP :] You can do it! You are good ok.. rem you're the Squash captain!

Shengyong you will get to do all those things in the US which I can only think about! wadever, can't complain, i rejected it back den.

any1 noes which unit matthew is in?
